Day Fifty

Day fifty - Pretty cool!

Today I give you one of my favourite pieces of public art found in the Glebe.

Found in the ally next to Mrs. Tiggy Winkles, the one leading to the Pancake Shack, are these very colourful nesting dolls.  I don't know who painted them, but I love them!

Day Forty-Nine

I first noticed this inuksuk last winter in Brown's Inlet. I don't know if it has been there longer than that or not.  I don't know who built it.  I do know that I like taking photos of it!

Day Forty-Eight

I came across this snow fort this morning.  The guy that builds it takes it very seriously and makes some amazing snow structures!

What a great dad!

Day Forty-Seven

The Papery has been around  long time in the Glebe.  A great shop to pick up a card or a plethora of other products - stickers - pens - gifts - and of course many paper products.  I was in on Friday to get a Valentines card for my wife.

Day Forty-Six

The Glebe has a number of churches.  I will try to show them all on here before the year is out.  The first that I will showcase is the Catholic church at Fourth Avenue and Percy Street.  Blessed Sacrament has been around more than 100 years and from what I can see is still well attended every Sunday.

Day Forty-Five

I was quite taken with the modern front porch and upper levels on this traditional house.

Day forty-four

I went for a walk yesterday and decided to stop in and check out Cats 'R Us on Bank Street.

It was a really cute little store with a number of unique items, a great clerk and a very handsome cat sitting on the counter.

If you need cat related products, this is the store for you.

The Glebe has a number of unique stores - it's one of the things that makes it great.

Day Forty-Three

This post was delayed by the lack of free wifi in Chicago's O'Hare airport.

I give you more of the street art that was added during the Bank Street reconstruction a few years ago.  This is at the corner of Bank Street and Third Avenue.

Wednesday 11 February 2015

Day Forty-two

With the reopening of Lansdowne Park, the rejuvenated Aberdeen Pavilion became the winter home of  a farmer's market.

I will do a post about the Aberdeen Pavilion at some point, so stay tuned for better photos of that, but here are some of the market.

Tuesday 10 February 2015

Day Forty-One

Another day another post.

This is the street art on the side of Davidson's Jewellers.  Davidson's has been in the neighbourhood for 75 years!  There is a cool article about that anniversary in the Glebe Report.

Day Forty

I thought the front doors of this duplex were kinda neat.

Sunday 8 February 2015

Day Thirty-Nine

I'm living in the Glebe today in part because of Good Morning Creative Arts preschool.  Its a long story, but the short version is my older son began at a wonderful daycare in the Glebe just before he turned two.

Because the kids were in daycare in the Glebe they both attended preschool there.

Because their friends were all there and because the schools were full, the next thing I knew, I was moving back home.

This was the best place!  if you have little kids I can't recommend it more.

Day Thirty-Eight

So, I'm writing this sitting at a table in the backyard of a condo in Rancho Mirage, California - often referred to as Palm Springs.  It is a very beautiful piece of the world and I'm lucky to have had this opportunity.

One of the many things we did today was to stop for some groceries.  The produce here is pretty amazing and it put me in mind of Nicastro's.

Nicastro's has a lot of amazing foods.  They seem to always have ripe avocados along with lots of other great fruits and vegetables.  As well, they have an amazing selection of cheese, farm fresh eggs, coffee and for many most importantly amazing sandwiches.

Friday 6 February 2015

Day Thirty-Seven

I am writing this sitting in a restaurant in the Denver airport - how's that for dedication?  I saw these bell decorations the other day and they made me smile.

Thursday 5 February 2015

Day Thirty-Six

This apartment building is at the corner of Fifth Avenue and Percy Street.  I like the details in the bricks.  Click on the photo to see it better.

Wednesday 4 February 2015

Day Thirty-Five

I was walking on First Avenue near Bank Street the other day and was taken by the juxtaposition of old and new as well as square and round by these houses.

Tuesday 3 February 2015

Day Thirty-Four - Updated

A bit silly maybe as a post, but these things have almost completely disappeared.

The public phone booth.  When was the last time you saw one?  The Glebe is lucky to still have this one on Third Avenue near Bank Street.  It increases our chances of Superman visits significantly!

UPDATE - So, after I posted this, my wife commented that she hoped that it would survive the adjacent parking garage construction.  Sadly, it appears that it did not.  I hope it will return following construction.

Day Thirty-Three

Lansdowne Park has been a bit controversial in the Glebe as the redevelopment has progressed.  Like it or not though, it is a part of the neighbourhood and fair game for this blog :-)

One element of the redevelopment that I featured yesterday without really remarking on it was the revamped football stadium where, among others, the Redblacks play.  At the beginning of this little project I walked by and snapped this photo - interesting to see it without any snow on January 1.

Day Thirty-Two

first day of February and a world record was set in the Glebe today. A great charity called Cracking Up The Capital held a snowman making event and set the record for the most snowmen built in one hour.

Unfortunately the kids didn't feel like venturing out in the cold so we didn't take part, but I was able to walk by later in the afternoon to take some photos.

So, here is what 1299 snowmen look like on the field at TD Stadium at Lansdowne Park:
